"Introduction to France"
Often very confusing to American consumers, French wines can be complicated and hard to discern, due to the fact that French wines will typically list the region, or the specific "village" that the wine comes from. So, this does not allow for the American consumer to immediately recognize the grapes/varietals. However (fortunately for the American consumer), many of the villages in France have been growing the same grapes for hundreds of years. As a result, French winemakers have concentrated on finding the best possible grape varieties, winemaking methods, and growing conditions for their particular regions. We will discuss the following;
-  The vinification/viticulture of each wine region (the wine making/wine growing), and the laws that pertain to them
- Identify the major wine producing regions of France
- Describe the climate and geography of those regions
- Identify significant villages and/or vineyards within these major areas
- How to appropriately purchase French wine from a wine shop/Order French wine from a restaurant menu
- Articulate important French wine terms
- Matching French wines with foods
This course is taught in a classroom setting. You will receive a handout(s) containing subsequent information, maps, and additional pamphlets.
Cost $25.00/person
