We are big fans of what Compass Box Whisky puts out. From their Great King Street all the way up to their 3 Year Old, they really know how to blend an amazing whisky.
We recently took delivery of some more limited offerings from them, the Phenomenology, a whisky they invite you to taste with no preconception of its flavors, experience the phenomena first hand.
Their Double Single, a single malt whisky, and a single grain whisky make up this elegantly complex and balanced pour.
Their No Name, their peatiest whisky yet. A bonfire-like smokiness on the nose with a peatiness that is by turns tarry and medicinal with hints of autumn leaves. A powerful smokiness and peatiness follow, accented by hints of ripe cherries, plums, and spice.
And of course the 3-Year-Old Deluxe, composed of less than 1% malt whisky produced near Brora, 90% malt whisky of an unstated age from the same distillery, and 9% peaty malt whisky distilled on the Isle of Skye, but they can only share the youngest aged whisky. Rich vanilla notes, waxy mouthfeel, and decadent baked orchard fruit notes, this 3 Year Old is simply wonderful.
